Jenny Gagnon

I have been enamored with gourds for many years. I love their shape and

the cross between the artistic design and the gourd’s dimension.

I strive to make designs that are strictly my own. I especially like to create

small keepsake boxes. I aim to design lids that disappear into the overall

creation, so that the gourd becomes both a piece of art and a hidden box.

Although my designs are strictly my own, I have been influenced by Erin

Hansen for her use of color, and by Shelly Newman for her landscape

design.

I have found that working with gourds has given me a way to center and

balance my life. This was especially true while I was a first-grade teacher.

I am never completely satisfied, and I’m always working to improve my art.

My plans are to continue taking art classes at Mt. San Jacinto College as a

way to increase my knowledge and skills, in an effort to raise my art to a

new level. This may lead me to new gourd designs or to a new medium.

We’ll wait and see!
